Greetings, Rosebank families! Welcome to 4th quarter, the final quarter of 4th grade! Can you believe it? This year flew by! Seems like it was only yesterday we were starting 4th grade. Students are eager to get back into the learning mode. Thank you for helping them with their Spring Break homework. Many students will receive their Homework Passes!
Healthy Focus – Just a reminder that we encourage students to bring healthy snacks/lunch and water only to school for student’s best mental and physical performance. I’ve been seeing students bringing artificially flavored chips, cookies, candies, chocolate, Gatorade, Arizona Teas, sugary drinks, etc. Water is the only drink I’m allowing in the classroom, ever since the first day of school. Healthy snacks can be fruit, sandwich, crackers, granola bars, cheese sticks, etc. Your child may enjoy all the other junk foods/drinks at home. Thank you for your support in this important matter!
Cell Phones Reminder – If your child has to bring their cell phone to school for emergencies, please remind them to leave them turned off or on silent mode in their backpacks. I do allow students to listen to music on their phone with me during our Mile Run Wednesdays only. Any other times cell phones are being used, it will be confiscated, and a parent will need to pick up at the office. Thank you for your cooperation and reminders to your child.
Egg Drop – We are so excited to start our April science project. As part of our study of the Scientific Method, we will conduct an Egg Drop experiment. Students will work on constructing their “spacecraft” which will help an “astronaut” (egg) to survive a drop from a 6-foot ladder. We will be needing supplies for our annual project by this Friday April 14. Instructions and donation list were sent home Friday. Here is an copy: egg drop parent request letter and our egg drop overview Thank you for any donations you can send!
AR Goals – We have set our final AR points goal! Our AR assembly is next month, date TBD. The goal for the assembly is 60 points; the cut off date is May 5. We also have our AR Electronics Party May 19. Everyone has their own goal (see your child’s yellow AR Report sent home Fridays). The cut-off date is May 18.
How to Help with AR – Help your child by making sure they read at least 40 min every night and that they are reading their level AR books. Your child should know their level. If not, you can check their AR yellow report or the paper I sent attached to Spring Break packet (you don’t need to sign and send back, keep for your records). Also, encourage your child to take their test everyday for picture books and at least once or twice a week for chapter books. Follow up by asking what score they got on their AR test. Thank you for your help at home! They are so motivated when you are on board!
Achieve Stars – Principal MacGaffey and I are so proud of all the students who have increased their lexile in March. I will be sending their stars home Monday. Keep up the great work. Our weekly class requirement is 3 articles at 75% or higher on First Try and one Thought Question. Remember that students can work on Achieve articles at home as well. Please encourage your child if you see they are not completing their 3 articles a week.
