Week 17: Busy Bees at Work!

Hello, 502 parents!  Thank you for helping your child get back in the swing of things last week.  It is so nice to be back in the classroom with them!  We shared about our Winter Break and also our 2015 academic goals. This coming week will be a normal week except for PAWS rotation on Wednesday morning.  Also, thank you for your cooperation with the new traffic pattern changes. Everything is going very smoothly!

Please be reminded of some upcoming dates:

  • Mon. Jan. 19 is Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday; there will be no school that day.
  • Tues. Jan. 20 Book Jacket Reports are due and presentations will happen all week.
  • Tues. Jan 20 January Scholastic Book Orders will be due.  Our online code is LHK22 or you may send the order form to school with cash or check payable to Scholastic.  I sent home 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade catalogs so your child has a bigger selection of books at different levels of reading.  Also note that AR/Lexile levels are denoted on the catalog right next to the book description.
  • Fri. Jan. 23 is the end of 2nd Quarter; Report Cards will be going home. It will also be our AR Electronics party; invitations will be sent home to students who made their points goals.

Thank you, also, for signing the STAR progress letter I sent home this week.  The letter unfortunately does not show whether your child went down or up.  I will try to send home a different letter that shows their progress so you can make any changes at home to help students improve.

Good news!…The class has earned 20 compliment stars for good behavior and team work! We will be having a small class party of their choosing.  The party will be this Friday, Jan. 16.  We will vote on Monday for what type of party they would like to have.  Hooray!

Don’t forget…your child received a day’s pass to the Living Coast Discovery Center where we went in November.  I believe it is good for one adult and one child, and will expire on Jan. 31st.  Hopefully my daughter and I will bump into you there this month!

This month’s learnings:

Math – Problem-solving, review multiplication/division, Module 4: Geometry

Reading – Main idea/details, parts of speech, sentences

Writing – Narrative Writing

Science – Ecosystems, Garbage/Recycling, Rocks and Minerals

Social Studies – Events leading up to and including Gold Rush

PE – folk dancing, running

Happy birthday to Aliza (Jan. 8), Diego (Jan. 10), Julisa and Elly (both Jan. 14)!

Prayer for my beloved mother-in-law who just passed away yesterday…she was a beautiful person, fiercely independent and strong…May she rest in peace.

Thank you for all you do at home, Rosebank parents.  Thank you for sending me your awesome children!  Hug your loved ones.  Tell them you love them.  Have a wonderful week! ~ Mrs. King 🙂
