Hooray for 2nd Quarter!

PUMPKINS

Greetings, Rosebank families! Happy October. We finished our first week of Quarter 2. I hope everyone had a nice Fall Break. It’s time to get back in the swing of things!

H-2-October – Last year, we had Socktober and collected new socks for the homeless. This year, we are having a water bottle drive for the less fortunate in our community. Please bring in new sealed 8 or 16 oz water bottles to school. Heavy loads can be brought to the multipurpose room. Thank you for your charitable donations, Panthers!

Quarter 2 Requirements – 1) Remember that now students are to read 35 min every night instead of 30 minutes. I will send home the results from their STAR tests which may reflect new book levels for AR. Students must continue to earn 2 AR points per week. 2) Students must complete 2 Achieve articles per week at 75% accuracy on First Try. They must show appropriate notes and highlighting on their article. I am modeling this with the class this week. 3) Students with 100% accuracy on Math Homework will receive a Skittle or M&M. We’re setting the bar higher! You can do it, Panthers!

Owl Pellet Dissection – One of our students’ favorite science activities! Permission letters were sent home today for our popular 60-minute owl pellet dissection activity. The Raptor Institute will visit on Oct. 26 and conduct the experiment with us to help us learn more about food webs and the role owls play in our environment. We are asking for a $6 cost donation for the supplies and visit. We want all students to participate; please let me know if there is a problem with cost. Permission slips and $6 deadline will be Fri. Oct. 21. I’m so excited for the students!

Scholastic Book Orders – are due tomorrow Friday. Please return completed form and money tomorrow if you are ordering. You may also order online at scholastic.com with code LHK22. Thank you for your purchases!

Panther Friday – Every Friday will be Panther Friday. Wear your spirit gear (Panther shirts) or a dark blue shirt to show your spirit at assembly. If you would like to purchase Panther shirts, please contact the office.

PTA Meeting – There will be a PTA meeting Wed. Oct. 12. 5:30 potluck/refreshments, 6:00 meeting begins. Come see what’s happening and bring your ideas to make Rosebank awesome!

How to Help Your Child – Please make sure your child reads every night. Set a timer for 35 minutes. Have them read near you so you can monitor. If they have trouble focusing, eliminate distractions and have them read out loud. Your child has math homework and spelling homework now. They only have a few problems on math text pages. They should have copied down examples from class. If they do not understand, please help them and write a note to me. They must show their work on math as much as they can. It’s not enough for them to have the correct answer. They need to be able to show their thinking. Please let me know by email or dojo if you have any questions or concerns or need resources. I’m here to help. 🙂

Thank you, parents, for your dedication to your children. They are learning, improving, and growing. I missed them over break and was so happy to see them again. Have an enjoyable weekend, Panthers! ~ Warmly, Mrs. King 🙂
