Enjoy your Fall Break! See you Oct. 4

th

Greetings, Rosebank families! Hooray! We finished the first quarter! Take some time to relax and also have some fun over your 2-week break. We return Tues. Oct. 4 which will be a FULL day, not a minimum day.

Red Carpet – Congratulations to our First Quarter Red Carpet honorees: Alejandra, Arlez, Kassandra and Conrad for their Academics and Citizenship!

Fall Break Homework -Homework is optional, but students who complete these activities will earn homework passes to use in Second Quarter: 1) Read at least one chapter book and take an AR test when we return to school. Read at least 5 picture books and take AR tests when we return. 2) Achieve – Complete 10 or more activities at 75% or higher on First Try. IXL – work on 4th Grade standards D15, D16, D17 and 3rd Grade standards F1-F13 with 80-100% scores. 3) Practice your multiplication facts everyday! I sent home some practice drill sheets.

GATE Classes – will begin Quarter 2! How exciting! GATE students can sign up for Coding Class with Mrs. Watson on Wednesdays after school or Drama Class with Ms. Cherie on Tuesdays after school. Please see permission letter sent home with your student last week:  gate-permission-slip-q2

Owl Pellet Dissection – As part of our science study of food webs, 4th grade classes will be participating in an awesome activity Oct. 26. The Raptor Institute will be presenting to us about birds of prey and will also facilitate owl pellet dissection in small groups. This is our third year doing this activity, and the students always love it and learn so much! We will send a letter home in Oct. and will ask each student to bring in program free (to be determined).  Here is a Youtube video about what owl pellets are and what the dissection entails so your child knows what to expect:

Second Quarter NEW Requirements/Incentives – 1) Read 35 minutes every night instead of 30. 2) Our new class goal will be to add 20 points to our current AR points. 3) We will work on 2 Achieve Articles and ONE Thought Question (writing) a week. I was going to increase it to 3 articles but after some training with the Achieve representative, they recommended to keep it low and work on being more accurate. 4) We will begin having one page of Spelling Homework Mon-Thurs nights. 5) If you get 100% on your Math Homework page and show your work, you earn a Skittle or M&M.

Scholastic Book Orders – Don’t forget! Stock your kid’s home library with books for all this reading they are doing. Order books online now at scholastic.com and use code LHK22. Or submit your order when we return with exact cash or check payable to Scholastic. Deadline will be Friday Oct. 7. Thank you for your purchase and helping us earn classroom points for more books!

Happy belated birthday to Arlez and Aiden last week! Happy advanced birthday to Angelina during break!

Have a great Fall Break, Panthers! Please email me if you have any questions. See you Tuesday Oct. 4! ~ Mrs. King 🙂
