Hello there, Rosebank families! I hope you are having a nice weekend so far. Thank you to those who came to watch us at our first week of Swim. We had a great week!

Swim Class – The students are improving in their swimming skills, getting good exercise, and enjoying being in the water everyday. The weather has been awesome! Thank you for all your help getting your child and their things ready for the day. Please come out and see us this week (our last week) at Parkway Pool if you can.

September Conferences/Minimum Days – will be Sept. 8-15. I sent home a bright pink paper to those who weren’t at Back to School Night so you can sign up. Please email me your top three choices or send back the form. I will be creating a schedule here on the website soon.

AR (Accelerated Reader) – Please check your child’s AR report (yellow) and initial every week. Many students are still learning the procedures for AR. They are having a little trouble with the routine of read an AR book at your level at night and come back to school the next day to take a test. We will continue working on this! Some students are reading chapter books, which is fine, as long as they stick to the book and read 30 minutes every night and try to finish in a timely manner. These are some behaviors we are working on and need help with:

  • finding an AR book at their level
  • knowing their level (it’s on the AR yellow report attached to Weekly Progress)
  • taking the book home at night
  • writing their Reading Log summary on the book
  • reading for 30 minutes every night (homework)
  • taking a test the next morning (can only be done at school during school hours)
  • passing the test
  • taking a test without looking in the book (read the book at least 3x)
  • passing the test (understanding the book at 70% or above)
  • sticking with a book
  • finishing a long book
  • repeating the process 3 more times (picture books only) by the end of the week (weekly requirement)
  • For more info, please click on Accelerated Reader at the top menu

Thank you for any help you can give at home. We will continue working on it at school!

IXL – Along with AR and Achieve, I have been assigning IXL Math standards to complete by Friday. They work on it online in class and may also work on it at home. So far, we have worked on Rounding, Addition and Subtraction of Numbers up to the Millions. Please let me know if your child needs help logging in to ixl.com.

Math Test – Most students did great on their Ch. 1 Place Value Post Test in comparison to their pretest. Many students passed with a score of 75% or above. I will send the scores home on next week’s progress report. We will now be working in Ch. 2 Multiplication. If you would like extra practice for your child, they can work on IXL.com on standards D1, D2, D3, D4 to begin. I will assign D1 and D2 this week for classwork/homework.

PTA – Please join our Rosebank PTA and support our school. $10 per person. Meetings are held every second Wednesday of the month. 5:30 is potluck, meeting begins at 6:00. The new board is excited and has many ideas for how to make this school year awesome. Come join in, bring a dish to share if you can and your ideas, and let’s work together to make this year fun for the students. Next meeting will be Wed. Sept. 7. See you there.

Upcoming Field Trip – 4th grade will be going to Mission Trails Thurs. Sept. 1 to learn about the Kumeyaay people and chaparral ecosystem. Permission slips and info will be sent home this week. There will be a cost for the bus (TBD).

Thank you, parents, for all your assistance at home. The students are very sweet and working hard. I hope they are enjoying 4th grade so far. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Have a great weekend, Panthers! ~ Warmly, Mrs. King 🙂
