Greetings, Rosebank families! Sadly, swimming is over. The students did an awesome job learning new things in the pool and had fun every step of the way! They also did very well with their No-Soda Challenge. Hopefully, they will keep this healthy habit up the rest of their lives! Thank you for your support at home and to those parents who dropped by the pool to watch and say hi. See all our awesome swimming photos on Photos 2016 page.
This week we will have CELDT (California English Language Development Test) testing for 4th grade English Learners on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday mornings with Mrs. Blackford. Good luck, Panthers!
Library – Monday at 2:30. Please remind your child to bring any overdue library books on Monday! Thank you.
Earbuds/Headphones – If you haven’t purchased earbuds or headphones for your child, please do so as soon as possible. We need them everyday to do our computer work in class, so we can concentrate and not distract others. Check Walmart, Target, CVS Pharmacy, Walgreens, Kmart for inexpensive brands. Thank you so much!
Conferences/Minimum Days – Sept. 10-17. Please take a look at the Conference Schedule many parents have signed up for during Back to School Night. I will send home a sign-up letter to those who were unable to attend or sign up that night or you can email me if you see an available spot that works. Also, please email me at arlene.king@cvesd.org if you cannot make your scheduled time so that we may reschedule. Thank you!
Achieve3000 – This web-based program builds your child’s nonfiction reading skills at their level. I will send home your child’s lexile level this week for your records. Starting this week, students will now be required to pass 2 Achieve articles a week this quarter (75% and above on First Try). After Fall Break, it will bump up to 3 articles per week. Students are given computer time in class, but if they do not complete, they may also work on Achieve at home. They must do the Before Reading Poll, Article, Activity, After Reading Poll, and Thought Question every time. I will let you know how your child is doing via the Weekly Progress Report. Please let me know if you have any questions about this great program.
AR – Our weekly goal is 2 points. Our quarter goal is 13 points by Sept. 10. The AR Electronics Party will be on Friday Sept. 11. Students who reach or exceed the class goal will be eligible to attend. Some students are already close or even past 13 points! Unfortunately, tests can only be taken at school. Keep reading and passing tests, boys and girls; you can do it. You have about 3 weeks left! After Fall Break, we will set individual goals. For more info on AR, please visit our AR page. Panthers are terrific readers!
GATE class – Students who’ve been identified GATE and High-Flyers just had their first class with Mrs. Kawamoto, our GATE teacher last Thursday. She will meet with 4th graders every Thursday from 1:15-2:15 and is starting cool engineering projects with them. Families will be invited to GATE Project Night to see your child’s project in action, tentatively scheduled for Thurs. Sept. 10, time TBD.
Rosebank Gear – Don’t forget to order your Spirit Friday shirts. Here is the Final T-Shirt Order Form Rosebank Back 2015-2016 (1) due with money on Monday. Panthers have pride!
Scholastic Book Orders – due this Friday Aug 28. A great and inexpensive way to add to your home library! Also, the more books you order, the more points our class receives towards books for our classroom library. Please send completed order form with cash or check payable to Scholastic in an envelope or baggy. You may also order online here with code LHK22. Thank you for supporting literacy!
Loose Coins Collection and Recycling Program – Bring in any loose coins to class. Our collection starts NOW! Also, we’ve already filled our first large garbage bag of empty plastic water bottles for the school recycling program. Thank you very much! Keep ’em coming!
Picture Make-ups – Sept. 1. Let me know if you need a new flyer.
Happy birthday to Jesus H. on Tuesday! Have a great week, Panther families! ~ Mrs. King 🙂
