Week 21: Speeches Due Wed.

Greetings, families! I apologize for the late post.  I am out this week with flu-like symptoms. Mrs. Kawamoto and Mr. Bauermann will be my substitutes.  I hope to be back in the classroom next week.  Just a few announcements:

Weekly Progress/AR reports – Please don’t forget to sign the pink AR report stapled to the Weekly Progress report.  This tells you how your child is doing in AR.  Also, I have started stapling the Achieve reports so you can see your child’s progress with Achieve articles.  As you know, if they complete a certain number of articles per week, they earn a Homefun pass.

Speeches – are due Wed.  Students should be prepared to give a 3-5 minute speech on “How will you innovate to make a better world?” They have tonight and tomorrow night to practice posture, volume, tempo, eye contact, and flow.

Friendship Card Exchange – will be Thursday at the end of the day.  Handing out Valentines is optional.  If your child is handing them out, please make sure they hand one out to everyone in the class.  Here is the Vday party letter with the class list of names.

Gold Rush Day – We will celebrate the end of our unit this Thursday by participating in various activities relating to the Gold Rush.  If you can, please have your child come to school dressed as a miner with jeans, plaid or flannel shirt, boots, hat, etc.  If not, no worries.

Jump Rope for Heart – will also be Thursday.  Students will be jumping to favorite tunes during their recess.  What a great way to stay healthy!

Math – Thank you for helping your child study for their module 4 test last week.  Without having graded the tests yet, the students seemed to have done very well and showed definite improvement from their pre-test a few weeks ago.  Our new module will be all about Fractions…yippee!

Upcoming – Please be reminded that this Friday and Monday are Presidents’ Holidays – no school. School will resume Tues. Feb. 17.  Feb. 18 is the Rosebank Speak-off where one speaker from each class will compete.  Also, student-led conferences are coming in March! More info to come.

Congratulations to our Rosebank soccer team on their 6-2 victory over Otay Falcons Blue last week. Panthers will be playing Hilltop Knights at Hilltop this Thursday at 4:00.  Go, team!

As always, please contact me with any questions or concerns. Have an excellent week, Panthers! Stay healthy. ~ Mrs. King 🙂
