“Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life.” ~ Melody Beattie
Greetings, Rosebank families! What a great feeling to be on a week-long break. There will be no school all next week, Nov. 24-48. School resumes on Mon. Dec. 1. Just a few announcements:
Thank you very much to our parent chaperones on yesterday’s study trip to the Living Coast Discovery: Mr. Ray (Zach’s dad), Mr. Larios (Alyssa Marie’s mom’s boyfriend), Mr. Fernando (Angel’s uncle), Ms. Becerra (Jose’s mom), Mrs. Chidikon (Luis’s mom), Mrs. Estrada (Michelle’s mom), Ms. Gonzales (Brian’s mom), Ms. Herrera (Emma’s stepmom), Ms. Perfecto (Christian’s mom), and Mr. Sutton (Logan’s dad). The class had a great time on the tour, petting the manta rays, going on the field biologist trail to look for animals and evidence of animals, looking at plankton in the microscope, and going on a scavenger hunt! Pictures to come (see Photos page soon).
Living Coast Passes – I sent home passes today for your child and one adult to return to the Living Coast Discovery Center for free. I believe the deadline is Jan. 31, 2015. Let your child take you on a tour of what they saw and learned!
Thank you so much for all your generous donations to our Canned Food Drive. We turned in a bunch of beans, rice, and canned goods, thanks to you and to our sub Mrs. Kawamoto. What a great way to show our Core Value of Caring!
Thanksgiving Packet – I sent home a packet today. Students know that it is optional; however, they are encouraged to complete the activities detailed on the cover sheet to stay sharp and practice important skills. They will receive classroom payment for any assignments that are completed and submitted. Packets are due Mon. Dec. 1 when we return. Some reminders:
- Students should complete the two math pages copied. If they need help with multiplication or division, please see Math Resources page for new videos recently posted.
- Students may do Achieve 20 min a day (as many articles as they can complete, hopefully 2 or more) OR instead do the 3 Reading Comprehension copies in the packet. They may do both if they choose.
- Students should read 35 minutes per day. They should complete ONE Reading Log summary either on paper or email to me at arlene.king@cvesd.org. They should be ready to take tests (plural!) when we return to school. They should try to read at least ONE chapter book over break.
- Students should practice their Multiplication facts on IXL.com at least 10 min. a day. Log on with student ID number, password is initials + birthdate or initials + student ID number. When Multiplication facts are completed at 80%-100%, students may continue on to Division facts.
Weekly Progress Report – I sent these home today along with your child’s 2nd quarter AR weekly progress report (pink). Please speak with your child about their points and goals. Many students are doing very well and may need to increase their goal. In that case, you may cross off the personal goal and rewrite it. Some students need more encouragement to take their time, read carefully, and to remember to take ONE TEST PER DAY, if possible. Thank you for any support you can give.
Epic Fun Run – Reminder that this event is postponed to Fri. Dec. 19. The students were a little disappointed…but it gives us time to raise more money for our awesome school. Keep collecting those pledges over break if/when you get together with family. Thank you for any donations already made!
Scholastic Book Orders – Nov. orders are on their way and should be at school the week we return. Dec. order forms were just sent home and are due Dec. 1. Please send cash/check payable to Scholastic along with completed order form. Remember you can order online with code LHK22.
Parents, thank you so much for your help at home. If you or your child should have any questions, please feel free to contact me by email. I hope you have a great week together and for those celebrating, a wonderful Thanksgiving celebration. I am thankful for all of you! ~ Mrs. King 🙂
