Week 10: Happy November!

Hello there, Rosebank friends and families! We are entering Week 10 of the school year, and the last week of Quarter 1.  A big shout-out to Mrs. Guerrero (Dahalia’s mom) who donated mustaches for our class Mustache Party on Friday.  I mustache you a question…Don’t you think we all look handsome???

Thank you also to parents who came for conferences last week.  I’m looking forward to meeting with the rest of you this upcoming week.  Remember to have your child join us.  Please check the Conference Schedule here and let me know if you need to cancel for whatever reason, so we can reschedule right away.

Math – Please check out the new math videos on the Math Resources page.  We started Multiplication, and the methods we are learning are new and can be tricky.  I also added some multiplication facts sheets you can print out for your child to use as tools.  Hopefully these will help!  Please give me any feedback or ideas for resources you or your child may need to succeed.

Dough – Please have your child bring their dough on Monday for the California Map project.  Here are the instructions again (bottom of first page). Thank you!

AR Electronics Party – will be this Fri. Nov. 7.  Invitations/permission slips will be sent home Monday for students who have reached their 10-point goal:  Students who have not yet reached 10 points can certainly keep reading everyday this week and taking tests so they can join us on Friday.  I will open the classroom at recess and lunch so that students may have more chances to reach their goal.  You can do it, Panthers!

Study Trip – We’ll be going to the Living Coast Discovery Center on Thurs. Nov. 20 to learn more about Ecosystems and Food Webs in Science.  Please sign the permission slip sent home Friday and send $3 for your child by Wed. Nov. 5.  Parents interested in chaperoning, please complete the interest form and send $8 with your child as well.  We are so fortunate to have won transportation on this trip, woo-hoo! So all we are paying are the program fees.  🙂

Scholastic Book Orders – due Mon. Nov. 10. Please send cash or check payable to Scholastic.  Order online here with code LHK22.  Don’t forget you can use the $5 off coupon with purchase of $10 or more.  Thank you for your orders!

Epic Fun Run by PTA – will be happening on Fri. Nov. 21. Our fundraiser begins now until then.  Basically, students gather monetary pledges from sponsors (relatives and friends) and then participate in the Epic Fun Run Obstacle Course on Nov. 21.  Please complete the form sent home Friday so that students can make their webpage at school next week.  This webpage is only to contact friends and family that you choose in order to drum up pledges for the Fun Run.  Thank you for your PTA support!

Canned Food Drive – starts Monday.  We are collecting 1-lb bags of beans.  Please have your child bring to school and drop in our classroom Food Drive box. Thank you for your generous donations to help the less fortunate this holiday season!

Holidays – No school Tues. Nov. 11 for Veteran’s Day.  No school Nov. 24-28 for Thanksgiving.

Here is what we will be learning in November:

Math – Multiplication and Division

Reading – finishing The Lightning Thief.  We’ll be watching the movie on Friday! Then, starting Poetry and Reader’s Theater! So excited.

Writing – Opinion essays

Science – Ecosystems, Food Webs, and Conservation

Social Studies – finishing California Native Americans, starting California Explorers

PE – soccer, laps, folk dancing, healthy lifestyles

Don’t forget to set your clocks back one hour on Sunday Nov. 2! Have a fabulous week, Panthers! ~ Mrs. King 🙂
